You can train a dog at almost any age. You can start even from six weeks with puppy training. Obviously there are problems with training young puppies. The vet does not allow you to take them outside because the puppies are not fully vaccinated. So if you want to get a professional trainer at that early age, he would have to make home visits. Many people wait til their dogs are 6 months or older. The problem is that by that time some dogs are so out of control that some of their owners put them in rescue homes, at the best, some being put to sleep, and many die from behavior related incidents. In fact most dogs that die in the first two years of their lives is usually due to behavior related problems. So it is vitally important to begin to train your dogs as early as possible.

Dogs of any age, if they are in good health can be trained, and I have trained many older dogs, 5 years and more. These dogs have gone through their early years without proper control and understanding,  and usually within a very short time they can become happy, and very well behaved. So if your dog is forging ahead as you take him for a walk, or jumps up at everyone he comes into contact with, or is destroying your house contents, age doesn't matter, professional and kind training can change you and your dog's quality of life.
